Region: Wakiso District.

Climate: Tropical.

Landscape: Tropical Monsoon with short dry months and heavy rains for other months.

Population: Mildly densely populated with a mortality rate of 69 per 1000 births.

Tribe: Buganda.

Religion: Christianity and Buganda’s Indigenous Religion.

Leadership: Pastor Pascal Kashofo and his wife Mary Kashofo.

Buganda’s indigenous religion comes at a high price. This community still practices child sacrifice, a horrific appeal to the “gods” of wealth. This has devastated families and entire communities. The Buloba Kinship Home is located near many Buganda cultural shrines, where households in the area take part in this practice, offer money or coffee beans to their ancestors, or other witchcraft to curse their enemies and rivals.

Pastor Kashofo is conducting evangelism drives in the region aimed at teaching people about forgiveness and reconciliation in times of conflict in an effort to cut down on the rampant acts of witchcraft. His wife Mary conducts art and craft trainings as well as health campaigns aimed at encouraging women to access medical health treatments like immunization and blood checks rather than blaming witch craft for simple ailments like Malaria, which is treatable if detected.

BULOBA KINSHIP HOME NEEDS

This Kinship Home needs a fence to help protect the children from opportunistic intruders who see orphans as easy pickings for child sacrifice. This home also would benefit from a kitchen that will keep the kids’ meals safe.
